I used Patons® Kroy (75% wool, 25% nylon) sock yarn in Bronzed Berry Stripes because it reminded me of smoke, fire, and ashes (coals). lol Perfect for a member of the fire department, huh?
I already knew how to do the kitchener stitch from knitting an earlier project, so finishing the socks was a breeze! You can find a real nice video tutorial for the kitchener stitch near the bottom of the page on KnittingHelp.com. There are a lot of helpful videos on this site, including one on picking up and decreasing the gusset stitches - just in case anyone wants to try knitting up a pair of their own! *I highly suggest you already know how to knit!
It took me about 24 hours since I had to unravel the toes and add about half an inch of length to the foot. *Note to self: The toe portion of the pattern is only 2" in the size small socks! Medium and large socks will only be slightly over one and one half inches due to the wider ending width. The length would have been ok if I didn't want a little wiggle room in my socks!
At any rate, I'll probably be adding some wool socks to the "Ready Made" category at the Handmaid Home store . . . eventually ;)
